Golf strategy
In brief
Winning at Golf means managing the stock: each of its 16 cards can be used only once. Before drawing, look for the longest possible chain; when choosing between two playable cards, prefer the one that frees a useful card for the next move. These are tips, not rules.
Drawing at the right time
The app lets you draw at any time, but a card drawn too early is wasted: it replaces the waste card and will not return. As long as an available card can be played on the waste, play it first. In the winning game for deal GO1-E-AAAAAAB, 13 of the 16 stock cards were used: 3 remained at the end.
Look for the longest chain
A removed card becomes the top card of the waste: the next card must follow it in turn. Before playing, look at where each choice leads. When two available cards fit, the one that uncovers a card you can play immediately afterwards is often the better choice.
In the winning game, starting from the V♣ drawn on move 32, 9 cards form a sequence without drawing, from move 33 to move 41: D♥, R♣, A♥, 2♠, 3♦, 4♥, 5♠, 6♣, 7♠. The sequence rises to the King, wraps around to the Ace (Easy rules) and continues to the 7.
Stock: 6 cards; waste: jack of clubs. Column 1: 6 of clubs, 5 of spades (available: 5 of spades); column 2: 2 of spades, king of clubs (available: king of clubs); column 3: 10 of clubs, ace of hearts (available: ace of hearts); column 4: 3 of diamonds, queen of hearts (available: queen of hearts); column 5: jack of hearts (available: jack of hearts); column 6: 10 of hearts, 4 of hearts (available: 4 of hearts); column 7: 3 of spades, 7 of spades (available: 7 of spades).
Kings and Aces in Classic
In Classic, a King on the waste accepts only a Queen, and an Ace only a 2. This makes a column whose available card is a King or an Ace harder to play: keep a Queen or a 2 available to unblock them, and clear columns where they cover many cards early. In Easy, these cards behave like any other cards again.
Clear columns evenly
A column that keeps all 5 of its cards until the end offers few choices. Removing cards from several columns keeps several cards available, increasing the chances that one of them can follow the top card of the waste.
Use undo
The app remembers the last 100 actions. When a sequence ends too soon, you are allowed to go back a few moves and try another card. The move counter, however, keeps track of every attempt.
